About Jessica Brohmer, LMFT

Online Therapy In Aptos and Across California

When you’re ready to invest in online therapy for yourself, you want to make sure you’ve found someone you can trust. Therapy works best when you and your therapist are a good fit. I know it can be a long and difficult process to find just the right therapist. My hope is that you’ll learn enough about me on this page to see if I might be right for you.

Online Therapy With Me

In sessions, we’ll start with a focus on mindfulness to help you get in touch with your thoughts and feelings. That may sound scary, especially if your mind feels like your worst enemy and biggest critic. The goal is to develop comfort and trust in yourself. Mindfulness goes hand in hand with acceptance. Many of us try to avoid our negative emotions, and mindful acceptance is the antidote. If your pattern includes avoidance, distraction, and discomfort, this first part of therapy will be transformative for you.

Next, we’ll process the roots of your fears and the specific issues you’re facing in your relationships. We’ll also get in touch with your values and the vision you have for your future. In light of your values and vision, we’ll look at your choices and actions and evaluate when you tend to act intentionally toward your best self and when you tend to react out of your negative thoughts and emotions. This will help us make a plan to help you grow into your values and intentional actions. Our ultimate goal is to see you growing in intentionality and reducing the time you spend being reactive.

My core values for myself and the way I do therapy are honesty, kindness, and commitment. Here’s what that means for you:

Honesty starts in the first session when we take the time to look at what’s going on for you. It takes a commitment to honesty when we look at the parts of you that you don’t like or that you want to change. Without honesty, the insights we gain from our work together aren’t going to be useful.

Kindness is the foundation of growth. So many people come into therapy with a long history of shaming and blaming themselves when things go wrong. That’s not helpful because shame shuts down your willingness to try new things.

Commitment keeps the growth process going. Therapy gets difficult. Maintaining new habits is tiring. Commitment taps into your values to help keep your vision of your new life in mind.
